Zubaydah Ashkanani Prize

The editorial board of Anthropology of the Middle East is pleased to announce that starting in 2015 the journal will award a yearly Zubaydah Ashkanani Prize for the best article that has been published in the journal in the previous year.

While we will consider the work from all scholars, we will give special consideration to contributions from the younger generation of scholars.

Articles will be chosen according to a clear use of anthropological methodology, quality of scholarship, rigour and sophistication of argumentation, references to relevant anthropological and local sources, and reflection on the everyday life of people in the Middle East. Articles may focus on any historical period – ancient, medieval or modern.

The winning article for each year will be chosen by the award committee at the end of the volume year in a process separate from the usual peer review process.

The winner will receive a sum of $2000 directly from the donor, Dr. Zubaydah Ashkanani.
