Report regarding our 2025 Commission on Anthropology of the Middle East (CAME), September 10–12th, 2025 entitled

Anthropology Transforming, Middle East in the Eye of the Storm,

Venue: Galatasaray University, Center for Social Research (TAM)

This year, our Commission Conference consisted of the following panels and extended for three days, from 9 AM to 5 PM, with three lunch breaks. This year besides our usual sessions, we were extremely pleased to have had Dr. Amina Tawasil from Columbia University who delivered a Keynote Speech, entitled: “The Anthropological Work of Safeguarding the Vulnerable: Creating Spaces of Care During a Political Crisis”. Furthermore, this year our Visual panel had three films, convened by film maker Shilan Saadi. I am attaching our program for detailed information on all the sessions and bios of all participants.

This year we were kindly invited by the Center for Social Research of Galatasaray University in Istanbul to hold our conference. The event gathered 40 participants from 14 countries. Some professors who could not come to Istanbul, convened on-line. We had preferred that all other participants be present, but some had physical or acute financial problems and could not come. We hope that next year we will have less on-line participants due to ever present difficulties which occur and result in lack of concentration in the sessions. We had a number of visitors both on-line and in the venue of the Conference.
